Stacy Gallin, Director

Dr. Stacy Gallin is the Director of the Center for Human Dignity in Bioethics, Health and the Holocaust at Misericordia University. After earning her doctoral degree in Medical Humanities from Drew University in 2012, Dr. Gallin began teaching this subject at the undergraduate and graduate levels and subsequently organized a Conference on Medicine, Bioethics and the Holocaust in 2015. The purpose of this conference was to bring together internationally renowned healthcare professionals, scholars, bioethicists and leaders in the field with interested members of the community in order to initiate a dialogue regarding the importance of creating enduring programs on medicine after the Holocaust at all educational and professional levels. The success of this conference provided the foundation for the development of the Maimonides Institute for Medicine, Ethics and the Holocaust (MIMEH) later that year.

MIMEH's mission is to explore the ethical implications of the medical transgressions that took place during the Holocaust for modern scientific theory, medical practice, healthcare policy and human rights endeavors. Dr. Gallin has served as Founding Director since MIMEH's inception in late 2015. In June 2017, Dr. Gallin was appointed Co-Chair of the newly developed Department of Bioethics and the Holocaust of the UNESCO Chair of Bioethics (Haifa). She also works closely with various national and international organizations including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, UNESCO, the Ukrainian Center for Bioethics, and the Aspen Program for Ethical Healthcare Leadership to raise awareness regarding the relevance of medicine, ethics and the Holocaust for modern society.
