Why IT at MU?

In today’s electronic world, a background in information technology is a highly marketable asset. The Information Technology program provides a strong foundation that goes beyond basic programming to include project implementation, computer architecture and more. Within this program at Misericordia, you will study the technical aspects of IT to become a professional in the field, and gain important business writing and presentation skills. The IT degree along with a specialization in IT Security prepares you to manage and establish procedures, policies, and practices to protect information and data.

What makes Misericordia’s Information Technology program stand out from all the rest: This program has a strong foundation of knowledge to keep pace with trends in technology. Misericordia students experience high-quality, hands-on learning in our well-equipped computer classrooms and labs in the Henry Science Center. As part of their education, students are strongly encouraged to complete an internship to give them excellent real-world experience and better knowledge of the industry. The IT curriculum includes elective courses such as Game Programming and Internet Programming . But your choices will not end there, as you can enhance in your IT major with business courses or other diverse areas such as Philosophy or Psychology. The MU IT program prepares you well for graduate school or to immediately begin your career in scientific or industrial programming and systems analysis.

Major Flexibility

Our flexible program allows you to tie your IT education to other areas of interest that will determine the direction of your career. In addition to courses in programming, systems, and applications, you can choose to specialize in IT Security. We are now offering new IT elective courses in Game Programming and Internet Programming.

But your choices don't end there. You can tie your major in with business courses or with areas as diverse as philosophy or psychology, if that is where your interest lies. You'll be well-prepared for graduate school, if that's what you decide to do. With our liberal arts curriculum, you'll have the knowledge and thinking skills it takes to succeed. You'll also serve internships directly related to your major that will give you experience and connections in the business world.

IT Security Specialization

The Information Technology degree with a specialization in Information Technology Security prepares Information Technology managers to establish the procedures, policies, and practices that should be in place to protect information and data.

The curriculum is similar to the major in Information Technology except that there is an emphasis on six (6) IT Security courses.

Mission

To provide a cooperative and quality academic environment in which students can graduate with an undergraduate liberal arts based degree in information technology. The curriculum encompasses all aspects of computing technology. It is concerned with issues of how information technology can assist an organization meet their goals. Students learn how to select, create, apply, integrate and administer technology in an organization. Faculty are enabled to develop professionally.

The MBA 5th-Year program is for eligible rising Misericordia University seniors who wish to begin their graduate business studies as an undergraduate student. Accepted students will take up to 12 MBA credits within their current program. An applicant may be required to complete leveling courses in business functional areas through Peregrine. The graduate admissions committee will determine if the leveling courses will be taken concurrently with MBA courses or completed prior to starting the MBA program.
